1. Who we are

HouseRules helps households manage chores and challenges. This policy explains how we handle personal data.

2. Data we collect

• Email address (account login, account recovery, important service messages). This is the only sensitive personal data we collect.
• Nickname (display name used inside the household). Considered sensitive because it can identify a child in context.
• Device info (app version, OS version, basic diagnostics) for stability and support.
• Usage events (challenge/task actions, settings changes) for core functionality and troubleshooting.

3. Data we do NOT collect

• No precise location
• No contacts
• No photos, media, or files
• No payments or financial account numbers
• No health, fitness, or biometric data

4. How we use your data

• Authenticate and manage your account
• Operate household challenges and tasks
• Send optional notifications and service communications
• Keep the service secure and reliable
• Provide support when you contact us

5. Sharing your data

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not share email addresses or nicknames with advertisers.
• Service providers (e.g., hosting, analytics) only receive the minimum data needed to operate the app and must protect it.

6. Children and families

HouseRules can be used by all ages, including children, under parental or guardian supervision. Parents/guardians should create and manage accounts for children, choose appropriate nicknames, and supervise app use.

7. Your choices and controls

• Account deletion: In the app go to Settings → Account → Remove Account. All data tied to your account is deleted. If you are the last household member, the household is removed. If no housemasters remain, the most recent active member is promoted before deletion.
• Manual deletion: If you cannot access the app, contact us to delete the account manually: platform@myrules.org
• Notifications: You can enable/disable reminders and weekly reports in Settings.

8. Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, related data is removed. Backups and logs are pruned on a normal retention cycle.

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect data in transit and at rest. No system is perfect; please use a strong password and keep your device secure.

10. International transfers

Data may be processed in the region where our cloud providers operate. Protections and contracts are in place to safeguard your information.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated in-app or through an update notice.
